History

Mart Rinehart grew up on a Pennsylvania farm near the legendary York U.S. 30 Dragway. He attended his first drag race in the late 50’s and has spent virtually his entire adult life involved in the sport. Mart earned his first paycheck working at PennSupreme restaurant during high school. After graduation, he became manager but discovered that the busy restaurant kept him from going to the drag strip as often as he wanted. Consequently, he found work at Caterpillar Tractor Co. in York, PA, where he spent a thirty-one year career and learned all phases of the machinist trade, including turning, grinding, heat treating, inspection of ferrous and nonferrous metals, CNC machine operation and, eventually, robotics. Drag racing occupied most of his free time, first as a spectator then as a competitor.Mart met and married his wife Bonnie, who later  worked in the timing tower at York U.S. 30 until the tracked closed in 1979.  In fact, their first date was at the York drag strip. Their son, Marty, Jr. was born in 1968 and has been involved in drag racing his entire life.

In 1986, Mart began Rinehart’s Performance Race Cars as a part-time enterprise. In 1997, he retired from Caterpillar and Rinehart’s Performance became his second career. He has continuously grown the business ever since.

Mart and Larry Guest formed the Guest & Rinehart Drag Race Team in 1993, with Marty Rinehart, Jr. as their driver. The technical and financial resources provided by Rinehart’s Performance Race Cars enables Guest & Rinehart to achieve success at the track. The knowledge and expertise gained at the track then becomes available to racers doing business at Rinehart’s Performance.
